Oh NO! Facebook has just released information about the impending roll out of adverts in the Facebook Messenger App.
The new ads that will appear on the Messenger app home screen take up the majority of the screen, making them unmissable.
The ad format on offer is a Website Click Ad that when clicked on will open the link in the Messenger Browser and the Click to Message Ad that when clicked on pushes the user into the advertiser’s Messenger profile and initiates a chat (ideally bot driven).
Users will be able to hide ads but only temporarily. That being said if you are a user who repeatedly selects for ads to be hidden one would hope that the platform learns that you will stop using it if you continue to have a negative user experience. Alternatively Messenger may play the odds that Messenger is indispensable and users will continue to use the platform irrespective of ads policies.
Messenger ads come in addition to the existing ad units available that drive traffic to a brand’s Messenger profile from Facebook and Instagram.
Here is a video of what these ads are going to look like in your Messenger App.
There is no official press release on the Facebook online newsroom as yet but the Facebook has added information about how the Messenger ads will work.
Facebook’s official release information pertaining to Facebook Messenger Ads can be found here.
